Winter Wonderland

Last night the snow started while we were out eating dinner. We woke up this morning to about 5-6 inches of snow and then a wintry mix of sleet and snow started coming down. We decided to take a trip around our neighborhood block after the sleet stopped. Here we go on our big adventure.

Davis was lucky enough to be pulled around in his little sled. He is also wearing the snow pants that Grammy Stickley bought in Winchester. They sure came in handy for his first BIG snow in North Carolina.

He made some funny faces along the way.. we think mostly because his little cheeks were cold and when the wind blew it was a little chilly on his face.

Toward the end of the walk we decided that Hannah could be a "sled" dog and pull Davis along. We clipped the sled rope into her collar and away we went. She didn't really like this at first and several times would turn around quickly making Davis pivot in his sled. We also had her running and Davis was sliding along the snow quickly. Thank goodness we had no accidents.

Finally home again.

Chris shoveling the driveway. We were happy to finally put this shovel to use. It was the inaugural use as we have never had this much snow since living in Durham.

Sledding buddies

Davis was a bit upset at this point because he took his gloves off AND his hands were getting COLD. We decided to go in and thaw.

It was much warmer getting to watch from inside.

Look at Daddy shoveling snow. Davis watched out this window for a long time. He smiled and called out to Chris constantly. Chris would look up and yell his name and he would return the biggest smiles.

Intrigued by Chris

Hannah playing outside.

Our back porch was covered with snow. I measured it at about 8 inches deep.
We will see how long this snow sticks around since the weather isn't supposed to warm up for days. It definitely was icy on the roads in the neighborhood as the snow was packed down.

Backpack Adventures

Our backpacking adventures started after Christmas. I decided to get this child carrier backpack for Chris for Christmas so we could go hiking again. I wasn't sure if he would think this was a great gift considering carrying Davis meant you were adding ~30lbs of dead weight to your back. We decided to give it a try and see if Davis liked it......

He was not so sure about this large apparatus.

Yes he is fussing and trying to get out at this point. Still not sure what to make of it all.

Ok now he is up and on Daddy's back... starting to have a change of heart. Maybe he can get used to this. We do not have pictures from the end of our first trip around the block but he definitely liked the adventure. He sat up and looked out over Chris's shoulder and let his little legs bounce along in the pack. Chris was a bit tired after our first trip as it worked some different leg muscles.

Our second trip was another success. Although this time it ended in him falling asleep.

We both had Martin Luther King Day off which was great since the weather was gorgeous. We went for a hike at the Eno River State Park with Aimee and Mark. We hiked about 5 miles total.
Yep he is sleeping again. There was no way he could have stayed awake for this whole hike.

Don't forget about good ole Hannah. She was excited about the backpack because that means that we now are able to go to our old hiking spots and let her run and get rid of some energy.

Stacey and Mark's Wedding- December 27th, 2009

As many of you know our older sister, Stacey, married Mark Roy on 12/27/2009. We had a busy Christmas season and enjoyed celebrating their marriage with family and friends.

We had a great night of celebration. Congratulations Stacey and Mark!!!!

Future PA???

Davis will often find one of our stethoscopes tucked in our bags and will quickly pull it out and start playing. He puts the earpieces in his ears and tries to listen. Recently he went after Hannah to try to listen to her heartbeat but she was not interested in being examined.

It takes some focus to get the earpieces just right.

Taking a break.

Time to read up on antibiotics:
He puts the stethoscope around his neck just like this without any prompting. He also enjoys picking up this little book to read. For those of you thinking it looks like the Sanford Guide you are right. (For non-medical folks this is the bible for choosing the right antibiotic) He regularly flips through this book. We think he is drawn to it because of its small size.
What do you think??? Future PA???
