Happy 1st Birthday Davis!!!

(Playing with Sadie in Winchester)

Today was Davis's 1st birthday. It is hard to believe one year has passed since our little boy was born.

Although Davis did not get any cake today on his official birthday he thoroughly enjoyed his first experiences with a cupcake and cake.... Yep he has had both because he had TWO birthday parties over the last two weekends. We headed to Winchester on September 19th and were able to celebrate his upcoming birthday with family. Gran Newlin purchased yummy cupcakes for Davis and the kids. Let's just say that he was initially crying and then after I smeared icing on his lips and he tasted it he quickly shoved the entire cupcake into his mouth. (Yes we have this on video. )

Here he is initially crying... he was tired...

Yummy... this is good.

Trying to figure out how to fit the whole thing in his mouth at the same time.

Aunt Aimee was determined to get him to wear his birthday hat even if for a couple seconds.

Licking his fingers clean.

Davis unwrapped his gifts with some help from mommy and his cousins. He is excited in this picture and seemed to be getting warmed up.

Then the following weekend on September 26th we decided to celebrate his birthday with our church friends here in Durham.

Hanging with Grandpa Stickley before my party!!!

Davis's First Birthday cake

Yes the cake had chocolate mousse filling... he liked the cake.

Getting tired....

Getting the hang of unwrapping...

Davis playing with his Little People pirate ship. He loves the cannonball and the talking parrot.

We were happy that Grammy and Grandpa Stickley and Aunt Stacey came to visit and celebrate again on their way to the beach.

August 30th: 6 years and 11 months

That was then...... (Bermuda 2003)

This is NOW!!!

What is significant about August 30th for the Newlin Family? On August 30th Chris and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary AND Davis turned 11 months old. It is hard to believe we have been married for 6 years but then it isn't hard to believe since we started dating in high school and have known each other for so long. When we think of how quickly the last 11 months have passed we again are amazed. In one month Davis will celebrate his First Birthday. What a wonderful year this has been.

We didn't do anything fancy for our anniversary; we were just able to spend the day together as a family. Chris is on his surgery rotation currently and so his hours are a bit extended. We were happy that he had Sunday off to spend with us.

My parents were also in town over the weekend which was great. They helped watch Davis and play with him while we played in a softball tournament. Davis got some quality time with Grammy and Grandpa Stickley. He loves the attention his grandparents give him.

Labor Day Weekend

We had a fun Saturday to start off our Labor Day Weekend. Davis was busy playing around the house. He even fed Hannah a milk bone and then watched as she ate it.

Hannah is watching and being quite patient with Davis.

Then we had lunch... Davis enjoyed his tuna salad sandwich. We were amazed he ate it. As you can see Davis loves to make faces.....

After lunch we played some more... he tried to hide behind the curtains.

Then we headed to Duke to watch the first football game of the season, Duke vs Richmond (we lost). We made it to the 3rd quarter and then had to head home because it was past Davis's bedtime. He enjoyed playing with Chris's new Duke hat. We are looking forward to the North Carolina fall with gorgeous weather and lots of football and soccer to watch.

On Sunday Davis played in his rocking chair. He has been crawling into his chair more often and he loves to rock.

He is a climber and loves to try to stand up and then grab at the blinds or anything in reach. You can see my hand in the corner of the picture prepared to catch him and get him to sit down on his bottom....

Davis giggles and laughs when you tickle his face or belly with anything soft... the teddy bear worked well for tickling.
